Inflammation lowering golden latte
Ready to try a delicious, inflammation-busting alternative to your standard coffee?
A golden latte is a traditional Indian Ayurvedic drink used to stave off illness but has now become increasingly popular in coffee shops across the country as people have become aware of its health benefits.
It is based on the wonderful spice turmeric, rich in a compound called curcumin, which is highly anti-inflammatory and a potent antioxidant, mopping up damaging free radicals, as well as switching ‘on’ our own internal antioxidant production facilities. [1] Unfortunately turmeric isn’t well absorbed, so combining it here with the healthy fats found in the coconut milk, the MCTs in the oil and some black pepper can boost uptake by a whopping 2000%! [2]
Golden latte
Ingredients
(Serves 2)
Coconut milk 500ml (carton, not canned) - or other milk of choice
Turmeric powder 1 tsp
Cinnamon ½ tsp
Cardamom ¼ tsp
Clove 1 pinch (ground)
Black pepper 1 pinch
Ginger root ½ - 1 tsp (chopped)
Coconut oil ½ tsp
Raw honey - a small amount to taste if needed (optional)
Method
Add the milk to a pan together with all the spice powders and oil and heat gently. Allow the spices to gently infuse for about 10mins to release their benefits. Strain into a cup, add a small amount of honey if needed, relax and enjoy. Super simple!
