Skincare I recommend
Gentle, ethical skincare using naturally-derived, nourishing ingredients, suitable for sensitive skin that I personally use.
Skin is not separate from the rest of the body
I often get asked about skincare, particularly by those with autoimmune conditions, chronic inflammation or heightened skin sensitivity who frequently struggle to find products they tolerate.
I have used Tropic skincare for many years and continue to come back to it for the same reasons.
Tropic products are made using high-quality naturally-derived ingredients, thoughtfully formulated to support the skin barrier without unnecessary additives or fillers. They are freshly made in the UK, ethically sourced, cruelty free and committed to sustainability and social responsibility. They also work really well!
From a functional and naturopathic perspective, skin is not separate from the rest of the body.
What we apply to it matters, particularly for those with immune dysregulation or compromised skin-barrier function. Many conventional products contain ingredients that disrupt hormones, contribute to our chemical burden and can be irritating or sensitising over time.
Tropic offers an alternative for those seeking skincare that is effective, thoughtfully produced and aligned with a whole-body approach to health. While skincare is not a substitute for addressing root causes, it can be an important piece of the broader picture as we work to harmonise both inner and outer health.
Product spotlight:
Miracle Tamanu Balm
One product I am genuinely loving right now is the miracle Tamanu balm.
I have a couple of stubborn patches of dry skin that I half jokingly refer to as my “gluten radars”, as they tend to flare up whenever my system is a little inflamed and I have some gluten. Over the years I have tried loads of natural creams and balms with mixed success.
This one really surprised me.
Applied nightly, those patches settled within a couple of days. My skin felt a lot calmer, less itchy, more comfortable and noticeably less reactive. It has been a real stand out and has now earned its long-term place in my bathroom cabinet!
The balm has a rich, buttery texture that melts into the skin without greasiness, leaving it protected and soothed. It is powered by tamanu oil, often referred to as “green gold” in French Polynesia, alongside blackcurrant extract and cupuaçu butter to support barrier repair and calm inflammation.
What makes it particularly interesting:
Clinically shown to improve skin barrier function by an average of 16% after two weeks
Tamanu oil (anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial) supports skin regeneration and helps reduce flare ups
Blackcurrant extract provides antioxidant and essential fatty acid support
Cupuaçu butter hydrates and strengthens the skin barrier
Suitable for sensitive and reactive skin, including children from 3 months upwards
It can be used on dry patches, minor irritations, rashes, bites, post-sun skin or areas prone to scarring. A small amount goes a long way. You can thank me later!
